Why we exist
The record already exists. Almost nobody reads it.
Every land seizure, rate increase, and tax carve-out leaves a paper trail — a commission docket, a council vote, a trust filing, a condemnation notice. It is public. It is also long, dull, and buried where no one will look.
That gap is where power operates unchallenged. We close it by doing the reading and showing our work.
What that means in practice
- Every claim ties back to a document, a docket number, or a named official.
- We publish what the record says — including where it undercuts the story we expected.
- No anonymous outrage. If we can’t source it, we don’t run it.
- Corrections are posted in public, dated, and left standing.
- No advertiser, utility, or party has a say in what we cover.

Five gates. A story that fails any one of them doesn’t run — no matter how good the headline would have been.
Obtain the record
Docket, filing, contract, minutes, or records request. The primary document, not a summary of it.
Verify independently
Confirmed against a second primary source or the issuing agency. One document alone isn’t proof.
Name the authority
Which body acted, under what statute, and who signed. Accountability needs a name attached.
Give the subject the floor
Everyone named gets asked before publication. Their answer — or their silence — runs in the piece.
Follow the remedy
We stay on it after publication: the appeal, the vote, the refund. Most outlets leave; that’s where it matters.
