Eminent domain & property rights
Who is condemning land, under whose authority, for whose benefit — and what juries say it’s actually worth.

American Bytz Media is a fiercely independent news platform. We read the filing, pull the record, name the authority that signed it — then publish the document alongside the story, so you never have to take our word for it.
Why we exist
Every land seizure, rate increase, and tax carve-out leaves a paper trail — a commission docket, a council vote, a trust filing, a condemnation notice. It is public. It is also long, dull, and buried where no one will look.
That gap is where power operates unchallenged. We close it by doing the reading and showing our work.
What that means in practice
The beats
We don’t cover everything. We cover the arenas where a document, a vote, or a commission ruling quietly moves money and rights away from ordinary people.
Who is condemning land, under whose authority, for whose benefit — and what juries say it’s actually worth.
Rate cases, commission dockets, and transmission corridors — read line by line, because that’s where the increase hides.
Trusts, incentive deals, and tax abatements. When a corporation gets a cut, someone else gets the bill. We find out who.
Insurer–hospital standoffs, network terminations, and the out-of-network bills patients never agreed to.
Second Amendment litigation, emergency-powers creep, and the cases that decide how much government may do by decree.
What agencies release, what they withhold, and what the public-records law says they owe you.
The method
Five gates. A story that fails any one of them doesn’t run — no matter how good the headline would have been.
Docket, filing, contract, minutes, or records request. The primary document, not a summary of it.
Confirmed against a second primary source or the issuing agency. One document alone isn’t proof.
Which body acted, under what statute, and who signed. Accountability needs a name attached.
Everyone named gets asked before publication. Their answer — or their silence — runs in the piece.
We stay on it after publication: the appeal, the vote, the refund. Most outlets leave; that’s where it matters.

Rate cases, condemnation letters, HOA votes, settlement agreements, agency emails. If there’s a record behind it, we want to read it. Tick the confidential-source box on the form and we don’t store your name or contact details at all — not hidden in an admin screen, not kept and redacted later. Never stored.
